Protecting Your Hearing At Work
Protecting your hearing at work may not be the thing that you think of often. If we don’t the damage is permanent. We came across this fun video on hearing put out by WorkSafe BC. With so many clients in the construction industry we just had to share it with you.
Things discovered:

If you had to choose between your sight and your hearing you should choose your hearing.

Hazardous noise is any noise above 85 dBA that you are exposed to for over 8 hours. This means that a your kitchen blender could cause permanent damage if you listen to it for long enough.

On a job site if you are an arms length away from someone and can’t speak to them without raising your voice you need to wear hearing protection.

Signs of hearing loss:

  • Inability to hear high pitched sound
  • Sounds are muffled
  • Permanent or occasional ringing in the ear

Adequate protection needs to be customized to your occupation and the shape of your ears.

An annual hearing test will measure your health and warn you if progressive loss is detected.
